Due in part to SPK’s ongoing contributions and collaboration with Zoz Amba, the foundation was able to install several more modern flour mills serving a number of Ethiopian villages. One flour mill can support 3 or 4 villages that are located in relatively close proximity. Grinding teff grain into flour manually, with rocks, is an arduous task and takes many hours. Further, small bits of rock make their way into the flour, and over many years, end up grinding down teeth.
The flour mills benefit the whole village, but truly free up the lives and time of the women. The mills turn an hours-long, tedious and laborious task into something that takes just minutes.
